Working from Bali Is the New Trend to Encourage Bali Tourism

How Are Things Going around in Bali before Work from Bali?

According to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, the transmission cases for Covid-19 from February to June 2021 have improved to below 100 per day in Bali. The vaccination rate is approaching the population target of 70% with 1.4million people already got their jabs. Right now, in order to achieve the set estimation, Bali still lacks 3.3 million doses of vaccine. In preparation for the grand opening for Bali tourism in July, the government is pursuing the development for the green zones by supporting other regions aside from Ubud, Sanur, and Nusa Dua to encourage the program, allowing more freedom for the tourists to pay a visit to any areas without certain restrictions.

On the other hand, the growth of visits from the domestic and international tourists per January 2021 reached 2.000-2.500. Today, the number of visitors three times elevate to 7.000-7.500. Although it seems better than before, Bali still has a great deal of work. It is to boost up the minus 9, 8% of their economic sector. This is when WFB comes into practice. The aim is to increase the occupancy rate for 140.000 total rooms that existed in Bali (Bali villas, hotels, hostels, etc.). Moreover, to inspire more tourism actors moving forward and hiring those lost their job due to Covid-19.

KajaNe Bali Villas will explain everything you need to know about the new happening on the Island of Gods.

What Does It Mean to Work from Bali (WFB)?

Digital nomads take a liking to work from Bali. The reason is quite simple. Bali offers them a very chill working environment with its heavenly natures and complete telecommunication infrastructure. This style calls up the work-life balance everyone is dreaming of. With what Bali has to give off, it is just the perfect destination to run away from the hassle. Digital nomads choose their workspace and have more power to control their time. Work becomes less stressful, and thus, productivity and creativity easier to attain.

Relying on the tourism sector comes with a risk. Also, the strict traveling ban during the lockdown and Eid Al-Fitr in Indonesia led to the downward trend of domestic tourists to the island. At times like this, unemployment hikes up and Bali is struggling so hard to survive the critical condition. WFB is the benchmark to save Bali. The location chosen for the program in the areas in Nusa Dua is managed by a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN). It is under the supervision of the Indonesian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC). WFB is the first aid to help out the tourism industry and the creative economic sector rising.

Who can participate?

The issue saying the program only for the state civil apparatus is not entirely true. The online WFB seminar on June 2-4, 2021 was joined by State-Owned Enterprises, 7 ministry departments, and startups in Jakarta.  WFB will be done in stages from the end of July while waiting for the latest update for the Covid-19. Deputy Assistant Human Resource Development of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Hermin Esti Setyowati, added that the seminar also included the tourism actors in Bali providing the mechanism of WFB in more detail.

Sandiaga Uno stated that the number of people will not make up the total accommodations in Bali, however, the digital nomads and vast and developed businesses will. The government acts as a trigger in this case. The hope for the program in the future is to be an inspiration to other provinces in Indonesia and will successfully invite other circles besides the civil apparatus following the movement.

How is Work from Bali (WFB) going to be like?

25% of the civil apparatus in the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime and Investment Affairs will be facilitated by the state. About 16 hotels are arranged by the ITDC to contribute to the provision of accommodations and hotel facilities for the program. The point about WFB is that it will be more convenient for administrative work and offline meetings to be carried out in Bali. National and international organizations who would like to hold an event and MICE are welcomed from Bali. For instance, Arabian Travel Mart was celebrated in hybrid and there is also the forthcoming Bali beyond Travel Fair by observing the health protocols.

As the pilot project for WFB, Nusa Dua has a single management system and end-to-end services that ease the supervision process. Furthermore, every tourism-related sector has been CHSE certified meaning they already tick the checklist for ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the facilities. Moreover to assure the visitors that the hoteliers are all vaccinated and in progress to having their second shot of vaccine. This will elevate the confidence of the guests so they can have a safe holiday with no excessive worries.

The Head of the Bali Tourism Office, Putu Astawa, confirmed that Bali has performed the certification to all regions not merely limited to Nusa Dua. Ubud, Sanur, Buleleng, Karangasem, and many more also have taken part in this. Green zone, therefore, is an indication that the stakeholders of Bali tourism have the equivalent opportunity to get exposure from WFB. The consideration is because the participants of WFB will not only spend most of their time confined in their hotel rooms. They can have fun after work traveling anywhere they desire.
